A–Instrument
Kinetic architecture in wood
The instrument “A” is a kinetic and usable sculpture. It is derived from the functions of a roof truss, a metronome, and a ladder. It is an instrument for the body and mind that requires at least three people to be played. One person sits at the base of the pendulum while the other two stand or climb on the edges. Together, they set the tempo. The interaction creates moments of tension between balance and possible tipping moments of the structure.
The design is strongly derived from historical wooden structures and combines classic interlocking wooden joints such as lapjoint with engineering joints such as simplex nuts and big timber screws.
