Angewandte Decks
Site-specific furniture in wood
The project started with an open process in which the ideas, reactions, and desires of all university members were collected. Over three semesters, a collective design was developed. The partially indeterminate functionality of the structure offers diverse possibilities of usability and activity that can be continuously reimagined and reinvented. The project is being realized within the framework of the course “Studio Holz” at the department of Art Science and Art Education with participants from different departments of the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
The three deck structures are made of different selected woods and do without large concrete foundations, various steel angles, and shoes. The foundations are made of robinia posts, which are connected with CNC-milled pine beams, and the generous deck landscapes are completed with larch wood boards and slats.
